First and foremost I want to belatedly publicly thank my wonderful SP 10 Pal Clara for the really cool gift she sent to me. It's a felting kit where you actually use roving rather than yarn. The instructions are fairly complicated but you place the roving over the form you want for your purse and then you go through a number of steps including washing and agitating by hand and doing something with bubble wrap. I've never seen anything like it and I'm excited to give it a try. I've had a lot of fun in the SP 10 exchange. 
Then of course to continue the shawl theme here are the shawls my Mom made for my sister and I for mother's day. Aren't they great? Mine of course is the purple one and it's done in a seafoam stitch pattern. Better yet - it's totally yummy Cherry Tree Hill in a silk blend. THANKS MOM - you're the greatest!

Ooh I love the look of that kit. This is "real" felting as the purists would say, as opposed to fulling, which is what we do when we knit a bag & toss it in the machine. Felting is a good work out for the arm muscles! I tried it once & found muscles I didn't know I had. You can also add things in the process, bits of fab yarn, feathers, fabric, etc. Have fun!
Can't wait to see what you do with that felting kit! The shawls your mom made are gorgeous...now I may be wrong, but shouldn't the gift giving be the other way around ;) You have a special mother :)

What on earth do you do with the bubble wrap? Round up all the 8 and 9-year-olds in the neighborhood to stomp on it while it's covering the roving? Inquiring minds want to know! Too funny. It would be so cool to put some of my roving to good use that way, and I've got more pounds of it than I want to admit to. If you want to fiberpaint any anytime, let me know, and I'm sure someone else in town has bubble wrap to get rid of to match. Think of the little-kid birthday parties one could create: it's got all the elements--mess, watercolors, noise, more mess, and a chance to make funny shapes. Cool!
I keep missing out on the exchanges .. I love the kit you got..it looks like fun.. I just recently played around with needle felting now that is a hoot.
