Happy Days are here again * the skys above are clear again* I can knit my Spirogyra again * happy days are here again! Yes - the yarn arrived and it is the RIGHT COLOR. I'm so excited. I ripped open the bag and there it was in all its pink and greeness. I ordered two skeins to be safe so I might just have enough for a hat . . . . oh wait - that's what got me in to this mess in the first place. I did have an idea in my desperation. I went on Ravelry and found people who had made things out of that same yarn. I figured if the yarn I ordered wasn't the right colorway then I'd start stalking them and see if they had any extra to sell. Yet another potential use for Ravelry! Progress is being made on the monkey sock. I've turned the heel and have started on the foot. The pattern says to knit until it is 1-1/2 inch shorter than your foot. So do I measure that on the bottom from the heel? Or somehow measure it on the top? Someone please let me know. Also don't forget Daffodil Daze - if you post a photo of a daffodil in your area and let me know then you can be entered in the drawing. I'm keeping it open until Lisa sees them in Alaska!

You'll want to measure the bottom of your foot, from the heel. An easy way to do this accurately (I think this was in the instructions of the first sock pattern I ever did) is to stand on a piece of paper and have someone mark where your heel is and where your big toe is.....voila!! The sock is looking great!
No daffodils here yet!
; )
I'm no expert, but I did measure from my heal to my toe and started the decreases when I though i should. It turned out I did a few too many rows. The sock stretched a bit when it was on my foot. I just ended up doing less decreases, and kitchenering the toe with more stitches. It worked out...and I like the fit. So do that, measure your foot on paper like rohanknitter said, but realize you have an out if it doesn't work perfect.
I measure from my heel to the tip of my longest toe. I measure 91/2 inches so I knit the 8 inches and every one of my socks (monkey and others) fits perfectly :)
Glad you got the right yarn you wanted...that's a relief :)
Oh my, I am loving that Monkey sock!!! I have my yarn wound and ready to cast on. I've decided to do Monkeys as well. We'll have to wear our matching socks if ever we meet :-) I'm so glad that you found you yarn and it matches!!! Happy days indeed!!
Allison, I have daffoldils now on the blog : )
